History

In this great future, you can't forget your past

The Waldorf Television Store Bldg was constructed in the late 20’s and is located on the corner of Iowa Street and University Ave. It originally housed a candy store where you could buy "fountain drinks, choice candies, cigars and weekday lunches for $0.35". In the mid 40’s the building was sold and the new owners operated the Waldorf Cafe and the Waldorf House of Televisions, noted to be the first Television store in San Diego post WWII. Most recently the Building was owned by the operator of “The Last Real Gym” a New York basement style gym. Purpose Real Estate acquired the asset in 2022 and will complete the renovation in 2024. The project is a 12,000 SF adaptive reuse, which will house 11 Market Rate Apartment Units and 2 Commercial Suites.
